Top front timing cover left cylinder head (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all the requirements and conditions contained in the section on disconnecting the battery are met.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.

Dismantling

1. Put the car on a lift.

2. Disconnect "negative" battery terminal.

3. Drain the engine coolant.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Coolant drain, system flush and fill.

4. Remove the fan guard.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.

5. Remove the charcoal canister purge solenoid valve.

EMISSION REDUCTION SYSTEMS - V8, REPAIR WORK, Fuel vapor absorber purge solenoid valve.

6. Release the camshaft position sensor harness from the clip and remove the clip from the timing cover.



7. Disconnect the connector from the camshaft position sensor.

8. Release the fuel system ventilation hose from the bracket on the timing cover.



9. Disconnect block from the generator.


10. Release the generator harness from the 3 clamps.

11. Remove the valve cover of the left cylinder head.

12. Remove the electromagnetic valve of the left regulator of phases gas distribution.

13. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the cooling system hose from the generator.



14. Take out a clip, disconnect the bottom hose of a radiator from the case of the thermostat, turn away a bolt of a coupling collar.



15. Turn away a bolt of fastening of a hose of system of afterburning to the left head of cylinders.



16. Turn away a bolt of fastening of a hose of system of afterburning to the right head of cylinders.




17. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the collar supporting a hose of system of afterburning, from the pump of system of cooling.

18. Remove the afterburner hoses from the cylinder heads and move them aside. Dispose of the o-rings.



19. Turn away 6 bolts of fastening of a cover of a drive of GRM to a head of cylinders and remove a cover.

20. Dispose of the timing cover gasket.

NOTE: If disassembly was carried out only to provide access to other elements of the system, then further disassembly operations should not be performed.

21. Turn away 2 bolts of fastening of two arms on the top forward cover of GRM and remove arms.

22. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the gauge of position of a cam-shaft and remove the gauge.


23. Dispose of the o-ring.

Assembly

1. Wipe the camshaft position sensor and mating surfaces.

2. Install a new O-ring on the camshaft position sensor.

3. Install the camshaft position sensor, screw in the bolt and tighten it to 10 Nm.

4. Install 2 brackets on the timing cover, screw in the bolts and tighten them.

5. Wipe the timing cover and mating surface, pins and pin sockets.

6. Install a new timing cover gasket.



7. Apply STC 50550 sealant to the areas shown in the illustration.

8. Insert the lower bolt into the right timing cover and install the cover on the cylinder head.

NOTE: It will not be possible to insert the bottom bolt into the right timing cover after installing the left one.

9. Screw in the remaining 5 bolts and tighten by hand all 6 bolts securing the upper timing cover.



10. Put the mandrel LRT-12-225/2 on the valve cover of the left cylinder head.




11. Install the valve cover with a mandrel, screw in 4 bolts and tighten them with a torque of 10 Nm.

12. Tighten the timing cover bolts to 15 Nm.

13. Turn away 4 bolts of fastening of a valvate cover, remove a valve cover with mandrel LRT-12-225/2.

14. Install 2 new O-rings on the afterburner hose and lay the hose on the engine. Screw in and tighten the 3 bolts securing the afterburner hose to the engine.

15. Screw a bolt of fastening of the bottom hose of a radiator to an arm and tighten it.

16. Attach a hose of system of cooling to the generator and fix it with a collar.

17. Install the left camshaft adjuster solenoid valve.

V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Variable Valve Timing Solenoid Valve (VCC). Left cylinder head.

18. Establish a valvate cover of the left head of cylinders.

19. Connect the connector to the generator and secure the generator harness in three clamps.

20. Attach the fuel system ventilation hose to the bracket on the timing cover.

21. Connect the connector to the camshaft position sensor.

22. Attach the camshaft position sensor harness to the clip and secure the clip to the timing cover.

23. Install the fan guard.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.

24. Fill the cooling system with coolant.

COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Coolant drain, system flush and fill.

25. Attach "negative" battery terminal.
