Dismantling
1. Remove the left camshaft adjuster.
V8 Engine, ENGINE OVERHAUL, Variable Valve Timing (VCC).
2. Remove the lower front timing cover.
V8 Engine, ENGINE OVERHAUL, Lower Timing Cover.
Disassembly
1. Remove the timing chain
2. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the left shoe of a timing chain.
3. Remove the split latch on the left shoe and remove the shoe.
4. Turn away a bolt of fastening of the right shoe of a tensioner of a chain of GRM.
5. Remove the chain tensioner shoe and discard the O-ring.
6. Turn away 5 bolts of fastening of an average shoe of a timing chain.
7. Remove the middle chain shoe and discard the O-ring and stopper.
Examination
1. Wipe the timing chain sprockets.
2. Check timing chain sprockets for excessive wear.
Assembly
1. Install and lubricate a new stopper, oil seal and O-ring on the timing chain middle shoe.
2. Install the middle shoe and fasten it with bolts, the tightening torque of the bolts is 10 Nm.
3. Install a new O-ring on the right tensioner shoe and lubricate it.
4. Install the right tensioner shoe and fasten it with bolts, the bolt tightening torque is 45 Nm.
5. Install the left timing chain shoe and secure it with a split clip.
6. Screw in the left timing chain shoe mounting bolt and tighten to 10 Nm.
7. Lubricate the timing chain with clean engine oil.
8. Put the chain on the crankshaft drive sprocket and on the right camshaft adjuster.
NOTE: The timing chain is mounted on the crankshaft and right VCC sprockets in a random position.
9. Prior to installing the left VCC, attach the chain to the left cylinder head.
Assembly
1. Install the lower front timing cover.
V8 Engine, ENGINE OVERHAUL, Lower Timing Cover.
2. Install the left camshaft adjuster.
V8 Engine, ENGINE OVERHAUL, Variable Valve Timing (VCC).
