GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.
Removing
1. Put the car on a lift.
2. Disconnect "negative" battery terminal.
3. Drain the engine coolant.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Coolant drain, system flush and fill.
4. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
MAINTENANCE, SERVICE OPERATIONS, Engine oil and oil filter - V8 engine.
5. Remove the left exhaust manifold.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST SYSTEM: V-8 engine, REPAIRS, Gasket (gaskets) left exhaust manifold.
6. Disconnect the cooling system hoses from the fluid pump.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Pipes connecting the distribution pipe to the cooling system pump.
7. Remove the left camshaft adjuster.
V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Valve Timing Control (VCC). Left cylinder head.
8. Remove the plug LRT-12-227 from the retainer hole.
9. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to position 45o to T.M.T.
NOTE: Tighten the camshaft timing chain while turning the crankshaft and keep it taut.
10. Remove the LRT-12-223/6, LRT-12-223/5, LRT-12-223/3 and LRT-12-223/4 tools from the left cylinder head camshafts.
11. Turn away a bolt of fastening of a shoe of a chain to the left head of cylinders.
12. Loosen the 10 cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in the figure.
13. Discard 10 head bolts and remove 10 bolt washers.
14. With the help of a partner, remove the cylinder head.
15. Dispose of the cylinder head gasket.
16. Dispose of the O-ring on the cylinder block.
Installation
1. Clean the surfaces of the block head, cylinder block, pins and pin holes. If necessary, remove residual sealant with a hardwood scraper. Make sure that no residue of the removed sealant gets into the oil and water channels and threaded sockets.
CAUTION: Make sure that no oil or coolant remains in the threaded sockets of the cylinder block. If this is not done, then, when tightening the head bolts, the cylinder block can be damaged.
2. Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, check the linearity of the underside of the head in the directions shown in the figure.
TECHNICAL DATA, Engine - V8.
3. Install a new O-ring on the cylinder block.
4. Apply STC 50550 sealant to the areas shown in the illustration.
5. Slide a new head gasket over the dowel pins in the cylinder block.
6. With the help of a partner, place the head on the block, making sure that it hits the pins.
7. Replace the washers of the head mounting bolts and screw in new bolts. Tighten the head mounting bolts to 30 Nm in the sequence shown in the figure. Using an angle torque wrench, in the same sequence, tighten the bolts by 80°, and then another 80°.
NOTE: Do not attempt to remove the coating from new bolts.
8. Screw in a bolt of fastening of a shoe of a chain to the left head of cylinders and tighten it.
9. Carefully rotate the camshafts until the cylinder letters and numbers located at the rear of the shafts point upwards.
NOTE: The seemingly incorrect position of the camshafts does not indicate incorrect valve timing.
10. Loosen the bolt securing the mandrel LRT-12-223/4 to the mandrel LRT-12-223/3.
11. Install mandrels LRT-12-223/4 and LRT-12-223/3 on the rear of the camshafts of the left cylinder head and tighten the bolt.
12. Install the mandrels LRT-12-223/5 and LRT-12-223/6 on the left cylinder head and tighten the LRT-12-223/6 using the threaded socket of the spark plug.
13. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the V.M.T.
NOTE: Tighten the camshaft timing chain while turning the crankshaft and keep it taut.
14. Insert pin LRT-12-227 through hatch and lock flywheel in T.M.T.
15. Install the left camshaft adjuster.
V8 Engine, REPAIR WORK, Valve Timing Control (VCC). Left cylinder head.
16. Attach hoses of system of cooling to the liquid pump.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIRS, Pipes connecting the distribution pipe to the cooling system pump.
17. Install the left exhaust manifold.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST SYSTEM: V-8 engine, REPAIRS, Gasket (gaskets) left exhaust manifold.
18. Screw in a new oil filter and fill the engine with oil.
MAINTENANCE, SERVICE OPERATIONS, Engine oil and oil filter - V8 engine.
19. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Coolant drain, system flush and fill.
20. Attach "negative" battery terminal.
