Dismantling
1. Remove the automatic transmission filter.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - GM 5L40-E, REPAIR WORK, Filter - automatic transmission fluid.
2. Disconnect the connector blocks from the electromagnets of the spool block.
3. Remove the screws that secure the stop spring plate to the spool body and remove the spring plate.
4. Evenly and gradually remove the 8 Torx screws securing the spool block to the automatic transmission case.
5. Remove the spool block assembly.
6. Remove the automatic transmission case seals and discard them.
Assembly
1. Clean the seal locations in the gearbox housing.
2. Lubricate new seals with working fluid and install them in the gearbox housing.
3. Wipe the spool block and all mating surfaces.
4. Using the dowel pin supplied with the repair kit, position the spool block in the automatic transmission.
5. Install the screws securing the spool block and tighten them gradually and evenly with a torque of 10 Nm.
6. Install the thrust spring plate on the spool block, tighten the screws, but do not fully tighten them.
7. Install a spacer 0.8 mm thick between the stop lever and the spring plate and tighten the screws with a torque of 10 Nm.
8. Remove the spacer inserted between the stop lever and the spring plate.
9. Connect the pads to the connectors of the electromagnets of the spools.
10. Install the automatic transmission filter.
