WARNING: All components of the SRS system must be replaced after 15 years of operation.
Collision that did not deploy airbags or seat belts
Check the condition of the load-bearing elements of the body in the impact zone. Pay special attention to the bumper frame, the condition of the spars and brackets.
Collision that caused the airbags or seat belts to deploy
The procedure for inspecting and replacing components of the SRS system depends on the type and severity of the collision. The above instructions contain the minimum amount of technical actions that should be done after the operation of certain components of the system.
Check the condition of the load-bearing elements of the body in the impact zone. Pay special attention to the bumper frame, the condition of the spars and brackets.
WARNING: SRS ECU (DCU) must be replaced after any of the system components have been triggered.
IMPORTANT: The side impact sensor must be replaced after each deployment of the side airbags. Only the sensor on the impact side should be replaced.
Deployment of the frontal airbag (driver and passenger side)
If the front airbags have deployed, the following components must be replaced:
- Driver front airbag
- Front passenger airbag
- Additional wires (only if they are installed), connecting the front airbags to the SRS harnesses
- Front seat belt pretensioners
- Rear seat belt pretensioners - if equipped
- Driver's retractable seat belt reel - if fitted
- Rotary contactor
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
In addition, the following components should be checked and replaced:
- Tensioner (inertial coil) front passenger seat belt - check the condition of the belt, buckle lock, attachment points to the body
- Rear seat belt anchorages - check the condition of the belts, decorative buckle covers, attachment points to the body and the operation of the buckle locks
- Decorative trim for the front panel next to the front passenger airbag
- Steering wheel
- Front seat frame and head restraints
- Steering column - are there any signs of damage; whether the adjustments provided by the design work
- Shoulder belt adjusters
- Rear seat belts
Side airbags
If the side airbags have deployed, the following system components should be replaced (Components on the side of the vehicle where the impact occurred should be replaced):
- Side airbag.
- Side impact sensors on both sides of the vehicle.
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
In addition, the following components should be checked and replaced:
- Front seat belts - check the condition of the belts, inertia reels, buckle locks, attachment points to the body
- Rear Seat Belt Anchors - Check the condition of the belts, trim covers, attachment points to the body and buckle locks
- Front seat frame and head restraints
- Decorative door trim
- Shoulder belt adjusters
- Rear seat belts
Side curtain airbags
If the side curtain airbags have deployed, the following system components should be replaced (Components on the side of the vehicle where the impact occurred should be replaced):
- Side curtain airbags
- Additional wire between gas generator and SRS harness
- Curtain Air Curtain Brackets
- Interior finishing panels
- Front seat belt pretensioners
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
- Side impact sensors on both sides of the vehicle
In addition, the following components should be checked and replaced:
- roof lining
- Mounting brackets
- Front seat belts - check the condition of the belt, inertia reels, buckle locks, attachment points to the body
- Rear seat belt anchorages - condition of belts, trim covers, buckle locks and attachment points to the body
- Associated decorative panels
- Shoulder belt adjusters
Car rear impact
If the seat belt pretensioners deployed during a rear impact, the following components should be replaced:
- Front seat belt pretensioners.
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
- The retractable reels of the front and rear seat belts deployed during the impact.
In addition, the following components should be checked and replaced:
- Front seat frame and head restraints
- Shoulder belt adjusters
- Front seat belts, retractable reels, buckle locks, body attachment points
- Rear seat belt anchorages - condition of belts, trim covers, buckle locks and attachment points to the body
- Side impact sensors on both sides of the vehicle
Scheduled replacement of SRS system components
The materials used for airbags and seat belt pretensioners degrade over time.
Therefore, after 15 years, it is necessary to replace the airbags, belt tensioners and the rotary contactor.
