- prevent engine shutdown (stop interlock)
- initiate offline restart (start activator)
- prevent engine restart (start blocking)
Stop interlocks
Under normal conditions, the system "Stop/Start" automatically turns off the engine in the following situations:
- the car is stationary
- neutral included
- clutch pedal fully depressed
The following factors prevent the engine from stopping:
The driver has activated the stop lock
Stopping the engine is prevented by the following actions of the driver:
- the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
- Gearbox not in neutral (note that the driver, keeping his hand on the gear lever, can move the gearbox out of neutral without shifting into gear)
- clutch pedal not fully depressed
- accelerator pedal pressed
- hood open
- driver door open
- Driver's seat belt not fastened
- HDC enabled (downhill control system)
- TR mode enabled (Terrain Response)
- climate control system used above calibrated thresholds
- windshield demist function works
- trailer electrical connection detected
One of the vehicle's systems has activated the stop lock
Stopping the engine is prevented by the following states of automotive systems:
- the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
- vacuum in the brake servo drive is below the threshold value
- the ability of the battery to perform a cold start below a threshold
- low battery
- catalytic converter parameters out of calibration before or after calibration
- regenerated DPF (diesel particulate filter / particulate filter)
- engine coolant temperature below threshold
- engine oil temperature below threshold
Stop interlock activated by environmental condition
Engine shutdown is prevented by the following environmental factors:
- outdoor temperature above 35°C
- outdoor temperature below 4°C
Start activators
If the engine was turned off in a cycle "Stop/Start", the following conditions cause an early restart to be triggered in the same cycle:
The driver has started the start activator
An early restart of the engine is caused by the following states activated by the driver:
- the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
- vehicle speed exceeds the calibration threshold of 3 km/h (2 mph) (The restart will only take place if the transmission is in neutral and it is determined that the driver is in the vehicle: e.g. seat belt fastened, driver's door locked)
- vacuum in the brake servo drive is below the threshold value (the driver presses the brake pedal)
- HDC enabled (downhill control system)
- TR mode enabled (Terrain Response)
- increased heater fan speed selected; windshield demist function enabled
Launch activator launched by one of the car systems
Early restart of the engine is caused by the following conditions activated by automotive systems:
- the ability of the battery to start the engine has approached the lower threshold
- battery status or charge is approaching a low threshold
- the windshield defogging function is activated
- the temperature in the passenger compartment falls below or rises above the set threshold
Start activator enabled by environment
Early restart of the engine is caused by the following environmental conditions:
- outside temperature rises above 35°C
- outdoor temperature drops below 4°C
Start interlocks
If the engine was turned off in a cycle "Stop/Start", the following conditions block automatic restart:
The driver has triggered the start lock
The automatic restart of the engine is blocked by the following states activated by the driver:
- hood open
- brake pedal pressed
- gear selector moved out of neutral; message appears on the dashboard: "Select Neutral To Restart" (Engage neutral to restart)
- the driver's seat belt is unfastened; this is an automatic restart interlock so the engine can be restarted by depressing the clutch pedal
- the driver's door is not locked; this is an automatic restart interlock so the engine can be restarted by depressing the clutch pedal
Start lock is triggered by one of the car systems
Automatic engine restart is blocked by the following states activated by vehicle systems:
- engine off for more than 5 minutes: standard engine start required
- system malfunction
