Removing

1. Disconnect the battery ground wire. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.

3. Remove a transmission. Refer to Procedure: Gearbox (308-03 Manual transmission / transmission in a block with a driving axle, Removal).

CAUTION: Discard bolts.

NOTE: The clutch pressure plate bolts must be loosened two turns at a time and in the sequence shown. Lock the flywheel.

Installation

1. Check and, if necessary, reset the clutch pressure plate.

NOTE: The clutch cover is self-adjusting. The clutch disc and clutch cover are recommended to be replaced as a set. If a used clutch cover is fitted with a new clutch disc, the clutch cover must be adjusted before assembly. With the clutch cover resting on the outer edge, press the diaphragm evenly with your fingers as shown in the illustration so that the clutch cover adjusting ring can turn fully counterclockwise. After fixing the adjusting ring in this position, release the pressure on the diaphragm. The adjusting ring must be held in the indicated position until the self-adjustment of the clutch pedal is completed.

2. Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.

Inspect the flywheel and make sure that there are no burrs or signs of overheating on it. Replace flywheel if worn or damaged.

Inspect the clutch release bearing for damage or wear. Replace if necessary.

3. Special tool: 308-667. Tightening torque: 23 Nm

Use new bolts. Install the clutch disc with the markings 'TRANSMISSION SIDE' reversed (gear side) to the clutch cover.

NOTE: Lock the flywheel. Tighten the clutch pressure plate mounting bolts in sequence, turning each two turns to the specified tightening torque.

4. Remove special tools. Special tool: 303-1272



5. Install the gearbox in the block with the drive axle. Refer to Procedure: Gearbox (308-03 Manual Transmission / Transaxle Transmission, Installation).

6. Connect a wire of weight to the accumulator. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).
