Gear shift cables (Freelander 2)

Removing

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.

2. Remove cardan shaft. Refer to procedure: Driveshaft - Vehicle not included: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Cardan shaft, Removal and installation).

3. Remove the floor console. Refer to Procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument panel and console, Removal and installation).

4. Remove the air filter assembly. Refer to Procedure: Air Filter (303-12A Intake air distribution and filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and installation).

5. Remove the instrument panel and lower facing panels.





7. Remove the right lower instrument panel bracket.

NOTE: Before removing the cables, the gear must be in neutral; this will ensure proper cable routing during assembly.

11. Remove the cable seal.









15. Remove the shift cable assembly.

NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.

Installation

1. Install the shift cable assembly.

NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.

2. Install the shift lever. Tightening torque: 10 Nm

3. Fix the cables in the clamps.

4. Install the heat shield.

5. Fasten selector cables.

6. Install the seal plate. Tightening torque: 7 Nm

7. Connect the ball joints of the selector cable.

8. Disconnect the left cable clamp.



9. Allow the shift lever to stop in neutral.

10. Secure the selector cable clip without changing the position of the gear selector.

11. Establish an arm of the panel of devices. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

12. Fix a drain pipe and an air duct of a heater.


13. Establish the panel of devices and the lower facing panels.

14. Install the air filter assembly. Refer to Procedure: Air Filter (303-12A Intake air distribution and filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and installation).

15. Install the floor console. Refer to Procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument panel and console, Removal and installation).

16. Install the cardan shaft. Refer to procedure: Driveshaft - Vehicle not included: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Cardan shaft, Removal and installation).
