The fuel system of the TD4 diesel engine has a high (HP) and low pressure to deliver enough fuel to the engine under all operating conditions. Low pressure fuel system (LP) includes the following elements:
- Saddle shape plastic fuel tank
- Fuel supply module (with built-in tank pump)
- Fuel level sensors
- Supply and return fuel lines
- Fuel filter assembly
NOTE: Fuel is drawn from the fuel tank by a suction pump mounted on the engine. The in-tank pump does not supply fuel to the engine, but only through two transfer pumps to keep the fuel in the fuel supply reservoir.
The HP system is a Bosch Generation 3 injection system (3rd generation) common rail type. For more information, see the chapter: Fuel supply and controls (303-04B Fuel supply and controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and operation).
