NOTE: The steps in this procedure may be part of the installation procedure.
NOTE: The illustrations may differ in some details, but the fundamental points are completely true.
Removing
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: It is forbidden to carry out work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Be sure to install safety supports under the car.
2. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
3.
NOTE: Vehicles with particle filter (DPF)
4.
NOTE: Note the location of the hoses.
5.
6. Tightening torque: 10 Nm
NOTE: All vehicles
7. It may be necessary to insert a suitable tool between the shaft shoulder and the actuator stem, and wiggle it from side to side.
Do not apply force that could deform the variable geometry turbocharger drive shaft components.
When removing the variable geometry turbocharger drive shaft, do not apply rotational force, otherwise the worm gear may be damaged.
8. While pressing with your finger, move the variable geometry turbocharger drive mechanism to ensure there is sufficient travel. Move 10-20 times to ensure sufficient movement.
NOTE: Movement may be difficult at first due to accumulation of carbon deposits.
9. If necessary, use a penetrating spray.
CAUTION: Do not apply excessive force or leverage to the crank arm as this may deform the crank arm or damage the turbine mechanism.
10. Apply light penetrating grease to the turbocharger and actuator studs. Clean the surfaces of the studs.
NOTE: Very thin wet and dry paper may be required for polishing and removing corrosion.
Installation
1. Apply recommended high temperature lubricant (Land Rover part number LR029042) on both studs, paying special attention to ensure that they are completely covered.
2. Apply recommended high temperature lubricant (Land Rover part number LR029042) on the inner contact surface of the bushing with the turbocharger.
3. Install the elements in the reverse order of disassembly.
NOTE: Install new mounting clips.
NOTE: Using a suitable tool, turn the new retainers into the slots to verify proper installation.
NOTE: Apply protective lubricant to drive studs and drive connections.
