CAUTION: Diagnosis by substituting a component from another vehicle is NOT allowed. Substitution of control modules does not guarantee confirmation of the fault and, in addition, may cause additional faults in the vehicle being tested and/or in the vehicle from which the modules are removed.
NOTE: If a control module or component is suspected and the vehicle continues to be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, refer to the warranty manual before installing a new module/component (subsection B1.2), or determine if there is any previously approved special program in operation.
1. For ease of use, the problems are divided into groups Leakage and Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Mechanical factors:
- Leaks/damage in the air intake system
- Fuel leaks
- coolant level
- Coolant leaks. For more information refer to: Engine Cooling (303-03B Engine Cooling - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Diagnosis and Checks).
- Oil level
- Oil leaks
- Visibly damaged or worn parts
- Loose or missing nuts or bolts
3. If an obvious cause of a problem you identified or described by a customer is found, resolve it before proceeding to the next steps (if possible).
4. If the cause is not visually obvious, check the symptom and contact Symptom table.
