Technical features

The TD4 engine has the following key features:

• 16-valve, DOHC layout, 4 valves per cylinder.
• Fuel injectors are located in the center relative to the combustion chamber.
• Roller valve levers with hydraulic lash adjusters.
• Variable nozzle Garrett turbocharger with rotating electronic actuator (REA).
• Pierburg electronically controlled EGR valve with Visteon EGR heat exchanger.
• 3rd Generation Bosch Fuel System with Fuel Injection Technology with Fuel Rail Type "common rail".
• Piezo-electric nozzles with 7 holes (provide 5 injections per working cycle).
• Advanced Bosch EDC 16 engine management system.
• The intake manifold incorporates variable swirl and port shutoff technology.
• Electronic intake throttle for controlled engine shutdown.
• Balancing system.
• Aluminum alloy cylinder head and double wall cast iron cylinder block.
• The design of the cylinder head provides optimal air vortex formation for the entire range of engine speeds.
• Exhaust gas cleaning is carried out using a catalytic converter specially designed for the diesel engine and an optional DPF filter.
• Steel crankshaft with double flywheel and vibration damper.
• Emissions meet EUCD Stage 4 regulations.

Technical details

NOTE: TD4 engine cylinders are numbered from the rear of the engine (from the gearbox side). Thus, cylinder number 1 is located at the rear of the engine.
