The valve assembly with the EGR heat exchanger is located on the right side of the cylinder head, above the exhaust manifold, and is secured by four fasteners. The intake pipe connects the EGR heat exchanger to the exhaust manifold. A gas transfer tube runs through the engine and connects the EGR valve outlet to the intake manifold housing.
The piping on the EGR heat exchanger housing connects to the climate control heater outlet hose and supplies coolant to the EGR heat exchanger. At the outlet, the EGR heat exchanger is connected to the coolant manifold located on the right side of the engine. The coolant manifold is located between the temperature control module and the rear section of the coolant pump housing. For more information, see chapter: Engine Cooling (303-03B Engine Cooling - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and function).
EGR is controlled by the ECM; it works when the engine is at normal operating temperature and under constant speed driving conditions.
For more information, see the chapter: Emissions reduction (303-08B Emission Control - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and Function).
