Pos. | spare part no | Name |
1 | - | CKP sensor |
2 | - | CKP encoder pulse wheel |
The CKP sensor is mounted at the front of the engine and secured to the cylinder block with a dowel pin and screw. The position of the sensor is not adjustable. The sensor head is located close to the corresponding impulse wheel, which is located behind the crankshaft drive pulley. The impulse wheel is fixed on the crankshaft by means of a key.
This is a variable reluctance sensor that generates the engine speed and cylinder position #1 signal to the ECM. The ECM uses this information to determine the amount of fuel to be injected, the timing of fuel delivery, and the amount of EGR. For more information, see the chapter: Electronic Engine Controls (303-14 Electronic Engine Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and function).
