The aluminum oil sump housing is attached with twenty bolts to the bottom of the cylinder block and forms an extension section between the cylinder block and the oil sump. The oil sump housing is necessary to increase the distance between the oil pump and the oil sump due to the installation of a balancing system.
On the back of the oil sump housing are the lower anchor points for mounting the gearbox housing. The holes drilled on the left side of the housing are used to install the dipstick tube, oil temperature sensor and return hose from the crankcase ventilation oil separator.
The crankcase ventilation oil separator is also connected to the oil filler tube, which is located at the rear left of the engine. Oil for refilling the system passes through the oil separator and return hose and enters the oil sump. An oil baffle plate is built into the oil sump to reduce oil foaming and splashing.
