The CMP sensor is mounted at the front of the engine, behind the exhaust camshaft drive pulley. The tip of the sensor passes through the hole in the cylinder head cover and is located near the impulse zone of the camshaft pulley. The position of the sensor relative to the camshaft pulley is adjustable.
For more information on adjusting the CMP sensor gap, see the appropriate Service and Repair Procedures Manual (SRP).
This is a variable reluctance sensor that generates a camshaft position signal for cylinder #1 to be fed to the ECM. The ECM uses this information to determine the exact fuel injection timing during cranking. For more information, see the chapter: Electronic Engine Controls (303-14 Electronic Engine Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and function).
