Pinpoint test A: loss of coolant
A1: visual inspection
- Visually check if there is a loss of coolant.
- Perform a system pressure test. See element checks described in this section.
Yes - Repair the leak after checking. If necessary, add the prescribed coolant to the cooling system to bring it up to the correct level. For more information, please refer to: Specifications (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, Specifications) / Drain / fill coolant and remove air from the cooling system (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, General Procedures). CHECK the system is working properly.
No - Make sure the customer's complaint is justified.
Pinpoint test B: engine overheats
B1: coolant test
WARNING: The cooling system is under pressure! Do not release the reservoir cap until the system has cooled down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
Check the level and condition of the coolant. Has sufficient coolant been added to the system?
Yes - GO to B2. No - If necessary, add the prescribed coolant to the cooling system to bring it up to the correct level. For more information, please refer to: Specifications (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, Specifications) / Drain / fill coolant and remove air from the cooling system (303-03A Engine Cooling - 3.2L NA - I6, General Procedures). Check for lack of coolant Go to PINPOINT TEST A.
B2: checking the sealing cap of the cooling system expansion tank
Check for damage/correct operation of the sealed cap on the expansion tank of the cooling system. REFER to the coolant expansion tank leak test described in this section. Is the coolant expansion tank sealed cap working properly?
Yes - GO to B3.
No - INSTALL a new sealed cap on the expansion tank of the cooling system. CHECK the system is working properly.
B3: thermostat check
Check that the thermostat is working properly. REFER to the thermostat test described in this section. Is the thermostat working correctly?
Yes - Check the correct operation of the cooling fans, electrical circuits, sensors, modules, etc. For more information see: Electronic Controls (303-14B Electronic Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Diagnostics and Tests).
No - INSTALL a new thermostat. For more information refer to: Thermostat (303-03B Engine cooling - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Removal and installation). CHECK the system is working properly.
Pinpoint test C: Engine does not reach normal operating temperature
C1: thermostat check
