The coolant level is checked by a built-in float type sensor located in the expansion tank. The coolant level sensor is connected to the CJB. On vehicles equipped with an instrument panel "low series", if the coolant level falls below the level of the sensor, the low engine coolant level warning lamp comes on.
On vehicles equipped with an instrument panel "high series", a low coolant message is displayed in the message center. For more information, see the chapter:
- instrument panel (413-01 Instrument panel, Description and function)
- Information and message center (413-08 Information and Message Centre, Description and Operation)
The tank is sealed with a screw cap and is used to fill the system when performing maintenance. A safety valve is built into the tank cap, which protects the cooling system from overpressure.
