Gear selector cable (Freelander 2)

WARNING: Make sure the selector lever and shift mechanism are in the park position (P).

Removing

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.

2. Remove cardan shaft. Refer to procedure: Driveshaft - Vehicle not included: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Cardan shaft, Removal and installation).

3. Remove the floor console. Refer to Procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument panel and console, Removal and installation).

4. Remove the air filter assembly. Refer to Procedure: Air Filter (303-12A Intake air distribution and filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and installation).

5. Remove the instrument panel and lower facing panels.





7. Remove the right bottom instrument panel bracket.






9. Move the gear selector lever to the position "P".



10. Press and hold the selector cable ball joint release button and, using the lever, carefully disconnect the cable. Disconnect and remove cable.



11. Remove the cable seal.








14. Remove the selector cable assembly.

NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.

Installation

1. Install the selector cable.

NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.

2. Fix the cables in the clamps.

3. Install the heat shield.

4. Fasten selector cables.

5. Install the sealing plate. Tightening torque: 7 Nm

6. Install the shift lever. Tightening torque: 10 Nm

7. Connect the ball joints of the selector cable.

8. Install the instrument panel bracket. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

9. Fix the drain pipeline and an air duct of a heater.

10. Install the instrument panel and lower trim panels.

11. Install the air filter assembly. Refer to Procedure: Air Filter (303-12A Intake air distribution and filtration - 3.2L NA - I6, Removal and installation).

12. Install the floor console. Refer to Procedure: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument panel and console, Removal and installation).

13. Install the cardan shaft. Refer to procedure: Driveshaft - Vehicle not included: Diesel Fuel Filter (205-01 Cardan shaft, Removal and installation).
