Removing

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.

2. Remove the cover and disconnect the ground wire from the battery. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).

3. Remove a transmission and the hydrotransformer. Refer to procedure: Gearbox - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (307-01 Automatic transmission / transaxle transaxle, Installation).

4. Remove the torque converter holder.

5. Remove the torque converter. Special tool: 307-613

Prepare to collect leaking oil. Plug all openings.

6. Carefully remove and discard the torque converter seal.

Installation

1. Install a new torque converter O-ring. Special tool: 307-597

Observe absolute cleanliness when handling this element. Clean mating surfaces of foreign material.

2. When installing the torque converter, carefully rotate the torque converter until the oil pump drive engages. Special tool: 307-613

Clean mating surfaces of foreign material. Be extremely careful when working with this element. Before installing the torque converter, align the torque converter with the oil pump drive.

3. Install the torque converter holder.

4. Install the gearbox and torque converter. Refer to procedure: Gearbox - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (307-01 Automatic transmission / transaxle transaxle, Installation).

5. Connect the ground wire to the battery and install the cover. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).
