The instrument panel is connected to the TCM via the CAN bus. The TCM sends transmission status information to the instrument panel, and the instrument panel, through one of its two displays, informs the driver of this. For more information, see chapter: Instrument panel (413-01 Instrument panel, Description and function).
Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The MIL indicator lamp is located in the upper left corner of the instrument panel on the tachometer. Those transmission malfunctions that can affect the operation of the emission control system serve as a reason for the MIL to turn on.
The MIL is illuminated by the ECM when an appropriate fault message is received from the TCM via the CAN bus. The nature of the fault can be diagnosed using a Land Rover approved diagnostic system that reads fault codes stored in the TCM.
Transmission status indicator
The transmission status indicator is located on the right side of the instrument panel on the LCD display of the speedometer. The pointer display shows the position of the PRND selector lever, and in the case of manual mode (CommandShift™) - the selected gear. When the selector lever is moved to the position "Sport", a message is displayed below the CommandShift™ gear indicator "SPORT".
