The combined crankshaft pulley and vibration damper drive the engine accessories via a 6-rib V-ribbed drive belt. The drive belt is located on the pulleys of the units, the automatic tensioner and the intermediate pulley maintain full contact.
Automatic tensioner
The auto tensioner includes a tilt pulley mounted on a spring loaded pivot arm. The tensioner is located on the longest side of the drive belt between the crankshaft pulleys and the power steering pump. The drive belt preload provided by the auto-tensioner provides the traction needed to drive the accessories without belt slippage.
The automatic tensioner is also used to remove and install the drive belt.
Intermediate pulley
The intermediate pulley is located under the alternator pulley, next to the auto tensioner. The intermediate pulley deflects the drive belt, increasing the angle around the alternator and power steering pump pulleys.
