WARNING: Brake Test Including Heavy Duty Test (emergency braking, etc.) should not be carried out if the vehicle has new brake pads / discs or pads / drums that have not yet been run in. New friction elements of the brake system will not be fully effective until the process of their running-in is completed. Please note that if new parking brake pads or new rear brake discs are installed, a break-in procedure must be performed. For more information, see the chapter: Breaking in the parking brake pads (206-05 Parking Brake and Parking Brake Actuator, General Procedures).
Test the brakes at several driving speeds within the normal operating range. Use both light and sharp, strong pressure on the brake pedal. Watch for any tendency to jerk, pull or drag, any excessive delay in applying or releasing the brakes.
Let the car coast (coasting) and also note any slipping tendencies or signs of brake sticking.
After stopping the car (but not immediately after emergency braking) carefully check the temperature of the brakes. If one of the brake discs has a noticeably higher temperature than the others, this may indicate that the pads of this brake mechanism are seizing.
Upon completion of the test, check the vehicle:
- For leaks of oil, engine coolant, hydraulic fluids, air and fuel.
- Check for abnormal temperatures on any moving parts or components, such as wheel hubs, gearboxes, etc., which may indicate overtightened or insufficiently lubricated components and parts.
