Equipment
Before diagnosing car systems, make sure that the diagnostic equipment is in good condition, the connecting wires and lugs are not damaged. Be sure to check the condition of the wires and lugs of the power supply circuit of the device.
Polarity
Connect the battery to the vehicle circuit correctly, and also observe the polarity when connecting diagnostic equipment.
High voltage circuits
When disconnecting live high voltage wires, use pliers with insulated handles. Do not allow high voltage wires to come into contact with other electrical components, especially with the electronic control unit.
Vehicles with bi-xenon headlights
WARNING: The following instructions must be observed when handling them. Failure to follow instructions could result in exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays, high voltage injury, burns, or an explosion.
- All work should be carried out with special glasses and protective gloves.
- Make sure the headlights are off before removing the bulbs.
- Do not touch the glass part of the lamp with your hands.
- Under no circumstances should the headlights be switched on with the bulbs removed.
- Lamps may only be checked when the lamps are installed in the headlights.
- Unusable lamps must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Connectors and wiring harnesses
The space of the engine compartment is an environment that is particularly unfavorable for the placement of electrical system components and connectors. Always comply with the following requirements:
- Before disconnecting or connecting diagnostic equipment, make sure that the surface of the electrical system components is dry and free from oil leakage.
- Detachable connectors and sensors must be protected from oil, coolant or other liquids. Such contaminants can adversely affect the operation of systems or cause failure.
- Never disassemble electrical connectors by applying strong mechanical force or pulling on the harness.
- Before disconnecting the multi-pin connector, move the connector lock to the position to disconnect the connector; Before connecting the connector, make sure that the connector parts are in the correct position.
- All protective elements (covers, cases) must be replaced if damaged.
After making sure that any component is malfunctioning, follow the following sequence of actions:
- Switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery.
- Remove the component. Lock the disconnected wiring harness in a hanging position.
- When replacing a component, be careful not to touch the electrical connectors with oily hands; insert the connector into the mating part until the latch is completely snapped into place.
Disconnecting/connecting the battery
Before disconnecting the battery, read the section of this manual entitled "Disconnecting / connecting the battery". For more information, please refer to the chapter: Specifications (414-01 Battery, battery mount and wires, Specifications).
