Remove old seals with great care so as not to damage the contact surfaces and the seal housing.
Before installation, carefully inspect the seal to ensure it is clean and intact.
The surface on which the sealing lip will work and the seal housing must be smooth, free of scratches and burrs. The part mating with the cuff must be replaced if its sealing surface does not meet this requirement.
For the installation of most types of seals, special tools and protective sleeves have been developed; they should be used whenever indicated.
Currently, most seals have a protective wax finish and DO NOT require lubrication prior to installation. Always check that the appropriate repair procedure specifies that the seal must be installed dry. Never handle such seals with oily hands, as the oil will contaminate the protective coating, which will adversely affect seal performance; in addition, make sure that the fastening tool and safety sleeves are free from oil and grease. Seals to be lubricated prior to installation must be lubricated with the lubricant specified in the repair procedure at the designated locations.
Make sure the seal is installed correctly. For example, the sealing lip should be directed in the direction from which the liquid should not flow out.
When pressing the stuffing box, make sure that it is not skewed relative to the shaft and housing. In some cases, it is advisable to first press the stuffing box into the housing, and then install the shaft. Do not let the stuffing box bear the weight of the shaft.
To install the cuffs, use the recommended tool and protective sleeve. If you do not have the recommended fixture, then you can use a piece of suitable pipe, its outer diameter should be approximately 0.4 mm smaller than the outer diameter of the cuff. Wrap the shaft with electrical tape to protect the sealing lip.
Press the cuff to the full depth until it stops against the ledge of the body, if the boring for the cuff is made without a ledge, then press the cuff flush with the body. When pressing the gland, make sure that it is not skewed.
