CAUTION: The antifreeze concentration should be kept at 50%.
1. Check the specific gravity of the coolant with a density meter.
NOTE: A suitable density meter can be ordered through the equipment program (Part no. 511 3302 001 00).
2. Top up coolant if necessary. For more information, please refer to the chapter: Specifications (303-03B Engine Coolant - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Specifications).
Check/top up
WARNING: Do not remove the coolant expansion tank cap when the system is hot, as steam or coolant escaping from the cap could cause serious injury such as scalding.
Coolant that comes into contact with the paintwork can damage it. If coolant is spilled, remove it immediately and flush the area with water.
Always top up the system with a 50% mixture of antifreeze and water.
- Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. On a cold engine, the coolant level should reach the UPPER LEVEL mark above the COLD FILL RANGE sign on the wall of the expansion tank. You should not pay attention to traces of coolant in the upper part of the tank.
- If it is necessary to add coolant, remove the expansion tank cap and add coolant to the UPPER LEVEL mark. For more information, please refer to the chapter: Specifications (303-03B Engine Coolant - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Specifications).
- Install the expansion tank cap and close it until it clicks into place.
Coolant replacement
Every 10 years: Change the coolant. For more information, see the chapter: Draining/refilling coolant and bleeding the cooling system (303-03B Engine Cooling - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, General Procedures).
