The instrument panel can display the outside temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The outdoor temperature signal is initiated in the outdoor temperature sensor. The sensor is an NTC thermistor. It is installed in the left exterior rearview mirror. The temperature value is calculated by the ECM and sent via the high speed CAN bus to the instrument cluster.
If the temperature value falls below 4°C, the message center will flash 5 times the low outdoor temperature icon. This is accompanied by an audible signal coming from the instrument panel. The low outdoor temperature icon reappears if the outdoor temperature rises above 6°C and then falls back below 4°C or a new ignition cycle is started.
