On vehicles without an intrusion detection module, only perimeter mode is available to monitor hinged body panels and the validity of the remote control.
When perimetric mode is active, the CJB controls the soft close switches located in the latch mechanisms of the front and rear doors and the tailgate. A separate hood soft-close microswitch, located in the right hood latch mechanism in the engine compartment, controls the hood status.
When Surround Mode is active, the CJB monitors the interior of the vehicle for movement using an intrusion detection module located in the center of the headlining.
System activation
If the vehicle is not equipped with an intrusion detection module and a tilt sensor, the active anti-theft system is activated in perimeter mode when the vehicle is locked or dual locking is activated.
On vehicles equipped with an intrusion detection module, the system has two modes of operation; perimeter mode and volumetric mode.
Perimetric mode
Perimeter mode only controls the hinged body panels and the validity of the remote control in the launch control module. Perimetric mode is activated by a single press of the lock button on the remote control.
Volumetric mode
Surround Mode monitors the interior of the vehicle for intrusion. If the vehicle is equipped with a self-powered siren that is equipped with a tilt sensor, when the surround mode is active, the position of the vehicle is also monitored. Surround mode is activated by a second press of the lock button on the remote control. The second press of the button must be made three seconds after the first press. Pressing the lock button a second time also activates the double locking feature in perimeter mode.
The CJB will activate the active anti-theft system when the vehicle is locked or double-locked under the following conditions:
- All side doors, tailgate and hood closed
- CJB is not in transport mode
After the vehicle successfully completes the locking program, a single flash of the direction indicators will give confirmation indicating the locked condition. If the double locking of the door locks is activated, confirmation is given by pressing the turn indicators twice: one flash for locking and one long flash for double locking.
Wrong actions when locking
If any of the side doors, tailgate, or hood are opened when a lock or double lock request is received, the active anti-theft system remains disabled and the CJB will cause the vehicle horns or self-powered siren to briefly sound to indicate locking is not possible; the direction indicators will not flash in this case. Each locking attempt will be confirmed by emitting an audible signal.
When the CJB activates the active anti-theft system, it first enters perimeter mode and monitors the status of the hinged body panels. If the vehicle is equipped with a self-powered siren, an activation signal is sent from the CJB to allow the siren to be activated. If the vehicle is dual lock activated and is equipped with an intrusion detection module, the CJB sends an activation signal to the module and to the tilt sensor. During the first 30 seconds, the CJB ignores signals from the intrusion detection module to allow time for "appeasement" car interior and prevent false alarms.
If the back door is opened with the remote control, the intrusion detection module and tilt sensor are disabled. The lock is active until the tailgate is closed.
Shutdown
CJB disables the active anti-theft system to prevent false alarms under certain conditions:
- If the active anti-theft system is activated and is in the interior protection mode, and the battery voltage drops below 9 V, the CJB will disable the surround mode and leave only the perimeter protection mode in operation. This prevents false alarms because the intrusion detection module cannot operate correctly at 9V.
- On vehicles equipped with a battery powered siren, if the battery voltage drops from 9.5V to 9V for more than 30 seconds, the CJB will turn off the battery powered siren and, if necessary, will use the vehicle's horns to sound a warning. This prevents false alarms. Below 9V, the CJB will not generate a 'heartbeat' signal to a self-powered siren. The self-powered siren interprets this as a CJB tamper and activates the siren. If the battery voltage then rises above 9.5V, the CJB will reactivate the self-powered siren.
- If the vehicle is unlocked using the unlock button on the remote control and no doors/bonnet are opened within 60 seconds, the CJB will automatically re-lock the vehicle and reactivate the active anti-theft system (if the automatic relocking function is available). This prevents the vehicle from being left unlocked and with the anti-theft system disabled by accidentally pressing the unlock button on the remote control.
Alarm triggered
When an alarm is triggered, the CJB gives visual and audible warning signals. Warning tones are emitted by vehicle horns or a self-powered siren. Light alarms are given with the help of direction indicators.
The CJB activates the vehicle's horns or self-powered siren and turn signals for 30 seconds. The alarm operation is stopped for 5 seconds and if the trigger event for the alarm is still present, the CJB will cycle again for 30 seconds (60 seconds in some markets). This will repeat up to a maximum of 10 times (3 times in some markets) 30 seconds of work (60 seconds in some markets) during any one activation period. CJB will turn off the alarm after 10 cycles (3 cycles in some markets), while the trigger event for the alarm is still present, or when a trip signal is received.
NOTE: If a self-powered siren is triggered due to a burglary detection, the visual indication via the turn signals will not activate.
The alarm can be triggered when any of the doors/hood is opened, when the intrusion detection module detects movement inside the vehicle, the tilt sensor detects vehicle movement, or when the ignition is tampered with (invalid remote control).
Self powered siren
When the CJB activates the active anti-theft system in either perimeter or surround mode, the CJB sends an activation signal over the LIN bus to the self-powered siren. When the system is activated in interior volume protection mode, the CJB also sends an activation signal to the tilt sensor (in the presence of).
NOTE: If a self-powered siren is installed, it will also activate with a perimeter lock request.
Upon receiving activation signals, the siren and tilt sensor respond with a status message. If the CJB does not receive status signals within 12 seconds, the CJB assumes there is a malfunction and responds by issuing a shutdown signal to the siren and/or tilt sensor and stores the appropriate fault code. If the siren is disabled when the active anti-theft system is activated and the system subsequently trips, the CJB energizes the horn relay and uses the vehicle's horns instead of the siren to sound the warning horn.
When the siren is activated, the CJB sends a heartbeat signal to the siren which instructs the siren to control vehicle battery power and LIN bus communication with the CJB. The siren will work when:
- it receives an alarm signal from the CJB or tilt sensor
- power supply or LIN bus communication to CJB is interrupted
The tilt sensor measures the angles of the vehicle in the longitudinal and transverse directions in the range of±16 degrees relative to the horizontal plane. When the active anti-theft system is activated and is in the volume protection mode, the tilt sensor remembers the current angular position of the body, while monitoring the sensor readings. If the angular position of the body changes in any direction by an amount greater than the set alarm value, the tilt sensor will sound the siren.
If the anti-theft alarm system is active and the battery or self-powered siren is disconnected, the siren will operate without visual indication by flashing the direction indicators.
General opening/closing
The global open/close feature allows the user to fully close/open windows with a single push of a button on the remote lock. The button must be pressed and held for more than two seconds. One or both of the global open/close functions can be disabled using the Land Rover approved diagnostic system.
Remote control for general closing is not available in some markets, such as vehicles destined for North America.
Unlocking the driver's door only
The function of unlocking only the driver's door is characterized by the fact that only the driver's door and the tailgate are unlocked, all other doors remain locked. A single press of the unlock button on the remote unlock will unlock only the driver's door and the back door, a second press is required to unlock the other doors.
If the vehicle has dual locking, the first press of the unlock button on the remote control unlocks the driver's door and back door. The rest of the doors return to the simple lock state (without double blocking) and therefore can be unlocked using the inside door handles, the unlock button on the remote control, or the unlock switch in the instrument panel switch box.
Changing from central locking to unlocking the driver's door only can be done by simultaneously pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the remote control. The direction indicators will flash to confirm this transition.
Locking when starting
The drive-off lock function locks the side doors and tailgate if they are unlocked when the vehicle reaches a certain speed.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, if all doors and hood are closed and the selector lever is not in the "R" or "N", if CJB using high speed CAN·message from anti-lock braking system module (ABS) detects that the vehicle speed is over 7 km/h, the doors will automatically lock.
On manual transmission vehicles, with the doors and hood closed, if the CJB detects that the vehicle speed is greater than 7 km/h using a high-speed CAN·message from the ABS module, the doors will automatically lock.
Additional functions of the remote control
The remote control has additional buttons in addition to the lock and unlock buttons.
Attack alarm
The burglary alarm function allows the user to activate the vehicle's anti-theft alarm system using the remote control. To activate the panic alarm, the panic alarm button, identified by the triangle symbol, must be pressed 3 times within 3 seconds or pressed and held for more than 3 seconds.
General opening/closing
The general opening/closing function can be controlled from the remote control. This feature allows you to open/close your vehicle's windows with a single press of the lock or unlock button. To activate the general open/close function, the button must be pressed for more than two seconds. The general open/close function is not available in all countries.
Unlocking the tailgate
You can press the back door release button to unlock and release the tailgate latch only. It will work when the car is locked and armed or when it is not locked. If the vehicle is locked and alarmed, pressing the tailgate release button may open the tailgate without triggering the anti-theft alarm system. When the tailgate is then closed, the alarm will reactivate.
Remote headlights
The remote headlight switch can be pressed to activate the headlights to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. A single press of the button will turn on the headlights for approximately 25 seconds, after which they will turn off automatically. A second press of the button will turn off the headlights if the 25 second period has not elapsed. Pressing the stop/start button within a 25 second period also turns off the headlight remote control function.
Comfort mode
When the vehicle is unlocked using the unlock button on the remote control, the vehicle's electrical system initiates comfort mode. The following systems become active:
- Memory - seat adjustment and mirror position
- Interior and exterior lighting
- Audio system
- Instrument cluster message center
- Sound signal
- Cigarette lighter/power socket
