Auxiliary fuel-fired heater (FFBH), has a power of 5 kW and compensates for the relatively low coolant temperature inherent in a diesel engine. The block is located behind the right mudguard (RH) wing and heats the engine coolant coming out of the heater core.
Fuel fired auxiliary heater operation controlled by automatic temperature control module (ATC) via the medium speed CAN bus. FFBH is affected by:
- Outside temperature
- Engine coolant temperature
The fuel-fired auxiliary heater starts when the outside temperature is below 5°C and stops when the outside temperature reaches 8°C. The operation of the fuel-fired auxiliary heater may also be inhibited if the fuel level drops below a predetermined level.
Remote control operation
On vehicles from model year 2009, the FFBH has a remote control mode. The remote control system for operation includes the addition of an FFBH receiver, an FFBH antenna matching unit and a remote control. The FFBH unit is retained but has updated software. In addition, the engine control module (ECM) has updated calibration software. The instrument cluster message center displays FFBH messages as needed.
