Removing
1. Remove the mixing chamber panel. Refer to Procedure: Mixing Chamber (412-01 Climate control, Removal and installation).
2. Release the hood support legs and lock the hood in a vertical position.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.
4. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to procedure: Wheel and tire (204-04 Wheels and tires, Removal and installation).
5. Tightening torque: 60 Nm
WARNING: Use a new nut.
6. Compress a spring in gathering with the shock-absorber. Special tool: 204-619
NOTE: This step requires the assistance of a second mechanic.
7. Tightening torque: Stage 1: 45 Nm. Stage 2: 60°
WARNING: Be sure to use a new bolt.
8. Partially release the axle shaft from the steering knuckle. Special tool: 205-857
9. Partially release the axle shaft from the steering knuckle.
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the ball joint, do not allow the axle shaft to hang loose on one side.
10. Tightening torque: 100 Nm
WARNING: Install a new lower arm ball joint nut.
CAUTION: Do not allow the ball joint to rotate.
11. Special tool: 205-754A
12. Remove the axle shaft from the steering knuckle.
CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to separate the axle shaft from the hub assembly, failure to do so may result in damage to the axle shaft.
13. Tightening torque: 25 Nm
WARNING: Manual transmission: Liquid leakage is inevitable, use an absorbent cloth or place a container to collect the liquid.
NOTE: Picture shows petrol version, diesel version uses studs and nuts. The tightening torque is the same for all models.
Installation
1. Replace the elements in reverse order.
Tighten the axle shaft nut by hand. Do not use a pneumatic tool to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to this component.
2. Manual transmission vehicles only: Check the transmission fluid level and top up if necessary. Refer to Procedure: Checking the Transmission Fluid Level (308-03 Manual/Transaxle Transmission, General Procedures).
