The driveshaft is constructed from high strength double wall tubular steel to minimize weight and incorporates a range of collision energy distribution features to ensure consistent and predictable crushing in a severe frontal collision. The following is provided:
- collapsible design of the front section, which ensures its destruction.
- Composite long-travel double-shift pivot at the rear of the front section to absorb impact energy.
The cardan shaft is supported by one or two rigid intermediate supports made of pressed steel with riveted aluminum heat shields.
