Observe absolute cleanliness when handling these elements. If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, immediately rinse the affected area with cold water.
Removing
All vehicles
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Place secure stands under the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the battery ground wire. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).
3. Remove the electric motor and the lever drive of a cleaner of a windshield. Refer to Procedure: Windshield Wiper Motor (501-16 Windshield wipers and washers, Removal and installation).
4. Remove the lower driver airbag module. Refer to procedure: Driver's lower airbag module (501-20B Secondary restraint system, Removal and installation).
Left-hand drive vehicles

Prepare to collect spilled liquid. Plug all openings.
Right-hand drive vehicles

Installation
All vehicles
1. Install the master cylinder. Tightening torque: 26 Nm
CAUTION: Clean mating surfaces of foreign material.
2. Install the vacuum brake booster. Tightening torque: 22 Nm
CAUTION: Clean mating surfaces of foreign material.
3. Install the brake lines. Tightening torque: 15 Nm
CAUTION: Clean mating surfaces of foreign material.
Manual transmission vehicles
4. Connect the clutch release drive line.
CAUTION: Clean mating surfaces of foreign material.
All vehicles
5. Connect the vacuum line of the vacuum brake booster.
6. Dock an electric socket of the gauge switch of a control lamp of a low level of a brake liquid.
Left-hand drive vehicles
7. Install the ECM bracket. Tightening torque: 10 Nm
8. Install the ECM.
All vehicles
9. Install the driver's lower airbag module. Refer to procedure: Driver's lower airbag module (501-20B Secondary restraint system, Removal and installation).
10. Install the windshield wiper motor and linkage. Refer to Procedure: Windshield Wiper Motor (501-16 Windshield wipers and washers, Removal and installation).
11. Connect a wire of weight to the accumulator. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging system - General information, Specifications).
12. Remove air from the brake system. Refer to Procedure: Bleeding the Brake System (206-00 Brake System - General Information, General Procedures).
Manual transmission vehicles
13. Remove air from the hydraulic clutch. Refer to Procedure: Bleeding Clutch System (308-00 Manual Transmission / Transaxle Transmission and Clutch - General Information, General Procedures).
