Pinpoint test A: brake booster operation

A1: Checking the brake pedal travel with the engine off

• Switch off the ignition.
• Depress the brake pedal 10 times and finally hold down.

Does the pedal travel decrease and does the pedal go hard after you press it?

Yes - GO to A2.
No - ENSURE that vacuum is applied to the brake booster. Start the engine and let it run for three minutes, turn off the ignition, and then recheck. If the pedal travel does not decrease, the brake booster is suspected.

A2: Checking the brake pedal travel with the engine running

Still holding the brake pedal fully depressed, start the engine. Did the pedal travel increase after starting the engine?

Yes - Vacuum brake booster is working properly. Check for DTCs (DTC), indicating some other problem with the system.
No - ENSURE that vacuum is applied to the brake booster.
