The operation of the windshield wiper and washer is controlled by the CJB based on driver commands and signals from the rain sensor. Windshield wipers have 4 operating states:
- Single cleaning
- Intermittent/auto cleaning (vehicles with/without rain sensor)
- Low speed cleaning
- High speed cleaning
For the function to work "Auto" a signal from a rain sensor is required. The rain sensor is mounted on the inner surface of the windshield and transmits an infrared signal to detect the amount of moisture on the outer surface of the windshield. This value is then passed to the CJB over the interconnect LAN bus (LIN).
The CJB also controls the operation of the headlight washer function. For more information, see the section "Headlight washers", below.
The rear window wiper operates independently of the windshield wiper and is controlled by the CJB based on LIN·messages from the right multifunction steering column switch.
NOTE: Windshield and rear window washers are served by one pump, i.e. at any given time, only one washer can operate - front or rear.
