NOTE: The inner tailgate assembly is serviced as a separate weldable panel.
NOTE: The panel is serviced without its weld studs.
NOTE: NVH elements are pinned to this panel; they are not serviced on the new panel. In case of damage, new elements will be required.
NOTE: To gain access to remove and install the inner tailgate, the tailgate and support panels for both taillights must be removed.
Removing
1. When replacing the inner tailgate assembly, the following items are removed:
- rear bumper cover
- Rear bumper mount
- rear panel
- Support panels for both rear lights
2. 3. Remove basic panels of both back lanterns. For more information, please refer to the chapter: Rear light mounting panel (501-30 Repairs of sheet metal elements of the back, Removal and installation).
4. Remove the back panel. For more information, see the chapter: Back Panel Assembly (501-30, Removal and installation).
5. Cut off the old panel at the locations shown to allow easy access to the spot welds.
6. Mill out the contact welding points.
7. Disconnect the connections and remove the old panel, while also releasing the NVH elements.
Installation
1. Prepare the mating surfaces of the old and new panels.
2. Position the new panel in the desired location and fix it. Check position alignment. If it is correct, go to the next paragraph. If not, make any necessary adjustments and recheck before continuing.
3. Remove the new panel.
4. Apply adhesive to the areas shown.
5. Replace NVH elements if necessary.
6. Apply glue to the NVH elements.
7. Position the new panel in the desired location and secure it.
8. Spot weld.
9. Weld with electric rivets using MIG technology.
10. Install the weld studs.
11. Clean all welds.
12. Installation of the corresponding panels and mechanical elements is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
