The door mirrors are controlled by a switch block located on the driver's door. The switch block includes 2 non-latching mirror select switches marked with letters "L" And "R", and a 4-way joystick. The switch box is connected to the driver's door control module via the LIN bus. The driver and front passenger door control modules are connected via the medium speed CAN data bus. Wiring each door control module to the appropriate mirror provides power and ground to the mirror drive motors.
Each outside rearview mirror has two electric motors for horizontal (left/right) and vertical (up down) adjustments.
On vehicles with power driver's seat with memory function and door mirrors with memory function, each mirror motor has a potentiometer that is used to provide information about the current position of the motor. The current position and stored positions of each door mirror motor are stored in the corresponding door control module.
Stored door mirror positions are also monitored and stored in the door control module when using the mirror tilt function when reverse gear is selected.
When reverse gear is selected, the door control modules memorize the current mirror positions and then tilt the driver's and passenger's door mirrors to the standard tilt position. When reverse gear is selected, a preferred mirror tilt position can be memorized by setting the driver/passenger mirror to the desired position using the switch block. By setting the desired position using the switches, the new tilt positions will be automatically stored in the memory of the door control modules after changing from reverse gear to any other gear. Therefore, when reverse gear is selected again, the door control module will recall the new mirror tilt position. When shifting from reverse gear to another gear, the mirror will automatically move to the position saved before the reverse gear was selected.
The mirror tilt function in reverse gear is only available if mirrors with a memory function are installed and the mirror tilt function in reverse gear is activated in the instrument cluster.
If the driver selects the memory recall function using the switch block, the driver's seat and outside rear-view mirrors with the position memory function will move to the position stored in the memory. For more information, see the chapter: Seats (501-10 Seat Description and function).
