1 | - | Luggage compartment lifting door latch |
2 | - | Tailgate lock retainer |
The liftgate latch is installed at the bottom center of the liftgate inner panel and is an all-electric unit. The liftgate latch includes a locking motor and is hard-wired powered by the CJB. The opening microswitch is located inside the touch panel located on the underside of the liftgate outside handle.
The CJB releases the liftgate latch when the vehicle is stationary and a remote control button or outside handle touchpad is pressed. The liftgate latch also opens when the central locking switches on the instrument panel are pressed simultaneously for three seconds (while the vehicle speed must be below 8 km/h (5 mph)).
Liftgate Partial Close Switch
The tailgate latch has a partial close switch that is hardwired to the CJB. If the ignition is in power mode 4 (food accessories) or 6 (ignition) and the liftgate is opening or not fully closing, the liftgate partial close switch disconnects ground from the CJB. The CJB transmits a message on the medium speed CAN data bus to the instrument cluster informing the driver that the liftgate is not fully closed.
On vehicles with a low level instrument cluster, the tailgate half close symbol will illuminate. For more information, see chapter: Instrument panel (413-01 Instrument panel, Description and function).
On vehicles with a high-level instrument cluster, the tailgate half-close symbol will illuminate and a message will also be shown in the information center display. For more information, see the chapter: Information and Message Center (413-08 Information and Message Centre, Description and Operation).
The liftgate half-close switch is also integrated into the vehicle's security system and is used as a vehicle intrusion detection device. For more information, see the chapter: Anti-theft system - active (419-01A Anti-theft system - active, Description and principle of operation).
