To find the exact location of a fuel tank leak, if the leak has caused the MIL to come on, follow the steps below. Leak detection should be carried out if it is found that all other components of the system do not have obvious faults.
Examination
1. Check Fuel Supply and Emission System Components (EVAP) for obvious damage. Check that all connections are securely sealed.
2. Checking is carried out using the LRA-19-004 diagnostic unit.
3. Disconnect the atmosphere connection hose from the canister purge valve and attach the adapter LRA-19-004/1.
NOTE: The reason for using an adapter on the purge valve is that the Freelander currently does not have a dedicated connector for connecting the diagnostic unit.
4. Remove the plastic fender liner of the right rear wheel.

5. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose from the carbon canister.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting any part of the fuel system, thoroughly clean the surrounding area of dirt, dust and deposits to prevent foreign particles from entering the system.
6. Close the opening in the canister with the plug included in the LRA-19-004 kit.
7. Attach the LRA-19-004 to the adapter on the purge valve.
8. Check the fuel supply system following the instructions supplied with the LRA-19-004.
Adjustment
1. If a leak is found, replace the affected component and retest to confirm that the problem has been corrected.
2. Remove the plug from the canister.
3. Put a hose on the adsorber and secure it with a clamp.
4. Reinstall the rear wheel arch liner.

5. Disconnect adapter LRA-19-004/1 from purge valve.
6. Connect the hose to the canister purge solenoid valve.
