Dismantling
1. Remove the timing belt.
ENGINE - MODIFICATION K, volume 1.8, Piston group, Timing belt.
2. Remove the oil pump.
ENGINE - MODIFICATION K, volume 1.8, Front exhaust camshaft oil seal, Oil pump.
Disassembly
1. Remove the 2 screws and remove the back cover of the pump.
2. Remove and discard the lid seal.
Examination
1. Mark the relative position on both pump wheels and on its body.
2. Remove the outer and inner pump wheels.
3. Wash the wheels and pump housing.
4. Install the outer and inner wheels into the pump housing so that the marks of the relative position coincide.
5. Check clearances:
- Gap 'A' between outer wheel and body = 0.28-0.36mm
- Clearance 'B' at wheel lugs = 0.05-0.13 mm
- End clearance 'C' = 0.02-0.06 mm
6. Replace the oil pump assembly if the clearances are out of specification.
7. Remove the pressure relief valve plug and discard the sealing washer.
8. Remove the spring with pressure reducing valve.
9. Check for freedom of movement of the valve in the port and make sure that the valve body is free of burrs and corrosion.
NOTE: Corrosion can be removed with #600 sanding paper dampened with engine oil.
10. Measure the free length of the spring.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS, Engine - gasoline K1.8.
11. If obvious scoring is found on the valve body and if the length of the spring in the free state is less than the allowable one, the pressure reducing valve is replaced as a whole. If scoring is found in the valve passage, the oil pump assembly must be replaced.
Assembly
1. Remove the remaining sealant from the cover fixing screws, from the pressure reducing valve plug and from its threaded seat. WARNING: Tap (for thread cleaning) use is prohibited.
2. Wipe the pump cover.
3. Lubricate the pressure reducing valve, valve port and spring with clean engine oil.
4. Install valve with spring.
5. Place a new sealing washer on the plug and apply STC 50552 sealant to the threads of the plug.
6. Screw in the plug and tighten it to 25 Nm.
7. Lubricate pump wheels and pump housing with clean engine oil.
8. Insert the pump wheels into the housing so that the identification mark on the outer wheel faces outward and the marks on the relative position are aligned.
9. Lubricate the new pump cover seal with clean engine oil, install the seal and cover.
10. Apply STC 50552 sealant to the threads of the cover fixing screws, screw in the screws and tighten them.
11. Check how freely the pump wheels rotate.
Installation
1. Install the oil pump.
ENGINE - MODIFICATION K, volume 1.8, Front exhaust camshaft oil seal, Oil pump.
2. Install the timing belt.
ENGINE - MODIFICATION K, volume 1.8, Piston group, Timing belt.
