Examination
1. Disconnect "negative" battery terminal.
2. Remove the lower engine protection.
EXTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORKS, Engine lower shield.
3. Remove the right front wheel.
WARNING: Do not work under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Always install safety props.
4. Turn away 3 bolts and remove a splash guard.
5. Remove the valve cover with gasket.
ENGINE - Td4, Intake and exhaust camshafts, Valve cover gasket:.
6. Turn out a plug of an aperture of a clamp TDC of a cranked shaft.
7. Using a socket head and a wrench, rotate the crankshaft until the piston of the 1st cylinder comes to the TDC position.
8. To fix the crankshaft in the T.M.T. cylinder 1, install tool LRT-12-108.
CAUTION: Do not rotate the engine against the normal direction of rotation.
9. Install tool LRT-12-173 on the intake camshaft.
10. If the intake camshaft is in the correct position, then the bearing surfaces of the tool LRT-12-173 will touch the plane of the valve cover connector on both sides.
11. Remove tool LRT-12-173 from the intake camshaft and install it on the exhaust camshaft.
12. If the exhaust camshaft is in the correct position, then the bearing surfaces of the tool LRT-12-173 will touch the plane of the valve cover connector on both sides.
Adjustment
1. Fix a cowl in vertical position.
2. Remove the top cross member of the engine mount.
ENGINE - Td4, Intake and exhaust camshafts, Upper right engine mount cross member.
3. Turn away a nut of fastening of the right arm of the engine to a hydraulic support.
4. Attach lifting chains to the lifting eyes and raise the engine for better access.
5. After fixing the crankshaft with LRT-12-108 and holding the camshafts by the hexagons with an open-end wrench, unscrew and dispose of the bolts securing the chain drive sprockets.
6. Using new bolts, tighten the sprockets just enough so that they turn freely with no end runout.
7. Fit LRT-12-174 to cylinder head.
8. Using tool LRT-12-173, set the intake camshaft to the correct position and tighten the LRT-12-174 mounting bolt.
9. Holding the intake camshaft with a hexagon wrench and using a torque sector, tighten the intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm and tighten it another 35°.
10. Loosen the LRT-12-174 mounting bolt and remove the LRT-12-173 from the intake camshaft.
11. Using LRT-12-173, position the exhaust camshaft in the correct position and tighten the LRT-12-174 mounting bolt.
12. Holding the exhaust camshaft with a hexagon key and using the torque sector, tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm and tighten it another 35°.
13. Remove tools LRT-12-174 and LRT-12-173.
14. Remove tool LRT-12-108 to free crankshaft.
15. Turn the crankshaft two turns using a socket head and a wrench until the piston of the 1st cylinder comes to the TDC position.
16. To fix the crankshaft in the T.M.T. cylinder 1, install tool LRT-12-108.
CAUTION: Do not rotate the engine against the normal direction of rotation.
17. Install tool LRT-12-173 on intake camshaft.
18. If the intake camshaft is in the correct position, then the bearing surfaces of the tool LRT-12-173 will touch the plane of the valve cover connector on both sides.
19. Remove tool LRT-12-173 from the intake camshaft and install it on the exhaust camshaft.
20. If the exhaust camshaft is in the correct position, then the bearing surfaces of the tool LRT-12-173 will touch the plane of the valve cover connector on both sides.
21. If necessary, the valve timing adjustment should be repeated.
22. Remove tools LRT-12-173 and LRT-12-108.
23. Screw the plug of the hole of the T.M.T. crankshaft.
24. Lower the engine onto the hydraulic mounts.
25. Install the nut securing the engine bracket to the hydraulic support and tighten it. Tightening torque 85 Nm.
26. Disconnect the lifting chains.
27. Reinstall the top engine mount cross member.
ENGINE - Td4, Intake and exhaust camshafts, Upper right engine mount cross member.
28. Install the valve cover with gasket.
ENGINE - Td4, Intake and exhaust camshafts, Valve cover gasket.
29. Reinstall the mudguard and tighten the mounting bolts to 10 Nm.
