Transfer case gear oil change: North American market countries (Freelander 1)

Operating procedure

1. Remove the lower engine protection.

EXTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORKS, Engine lower shield.

2. Place a container under the transfer case.

CAUTION: Be careful when draining gear oil, which can be very hot.

3. Clean the area around the fill/level plug and oil drain plug.



4. Use LRT-41-021 to unscrew the filler plug and discard the sealing washer.



5. Remove the drain plug, discard the O-ring and let the oil drain.

NOTE: The oil should be drained after the transmission has fully warmed up.

6. Install a new washer on the drain plug and tighten the plug to 35 Nm.

Filling

1. Fill with gear oil of the correct grade up to the lower cut of the filler hole. It is necessary to give the oil some time to equalize the level throughout the box.

FILLING CAPACITIES, LIQUIDS AND OILS, Lubrication system.

2. Install a new sealing washer on the filler plug and tighten to 35 Nm.

3. Replace the lower motor guard.
