Jacking up a car
Raise the car only on the specially provided platform of the body. The available jacking positions are listed in the JACKING AND TOWING section of the INFORMATION chapter.
Make sure the lifting device is rated for the weight of this vehicle.
Raise the vehicle only when it is on level ground.
Apply the parking brake and place wheel chocks under the wheels.
WARNING: Do not work under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Always install safety props.
Do not leave tools, lifting devices in the repair area. Spilled oil must be cleaned up immediately. Maintain cleanliness and order in the premises of the service center.
Brake pads and linings
Install brake pads specified by the manufacturer on the vehicle. When replacing brake pads, all brake pads located on the same axle must be replaced.
Hydraulic brake system
When working on the brake system, observe the following instructions:
- Always use two wrenches when loosening or tightening brake pipes or brake hose nuts.
- Make sure the hoses are free of kinks and knots.
- Attach the brake lines to the provided mounting brackets. After fixing, the pipelines must not touch the moving parts of the body.
- Containers for draining and storing brake fluid must be absolutely clean.
- Do not store brake fluid in leaky containers. In this case, the liquid will absorb water from the surrounding air, which will lower its boiling point.
- Avoid contact of brake fluid with mineral oils. Do not drain brake fluid intended for later use into a container that previously held mineral oil.
- Do not reuse brake fluid that has been drained from the system during repairs.
- To clean parts of the brake system, use filtered brake fluid or a recommended substitute.
- Close all openings and fittings of the hydraulic unit immediately after disconnecting the hoses and pipes to prevent dirt from entering the unit.
- When dismantling the elements of the hydraulic system, ensure the absolute cleanliness of the workplace.
- It is necessary to use the recommended fasteners in the brake mechanisms, the threads of which match the threads in the units.
Plugs and screw plugs of the cooling system
If the engine is hot, then unscrew the cap of the expansion tank and the drain plug of the engine cooling jacket with special precautions. Be especially careful if the engine overheats.
To eliminate the possibility of burns, let the engine cool down before loosening the plugs.
