Checking and restoring the level of the working fluid
CAUTION: Avoid prolonged skin contact with mineral oil. Mineral oils wash away natural oils from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis.
1. Raise the car on a lift.
2. Apply the parking brake and place chocks under the front and rear wheels.
3. Remove the lower engine protection shield.

4. Connect the TestBook/T4 diagnostic tool to measure the temperature of the working fluid in the box.
WARNING: The fluid level should only be checked when the fluid temperature is between 35°and 45°. The measured fluid level will not correspond to the true position if the temperature value is outside the specified range.
5. Start the engine and move the selector lever from the position "R" to other positions, lingering in each position for 2-3 seconds. Return the selector lever to position "R".
6. Wipe the area around the fluid level plug.
7. With the engine running, unscrew the level plug with a special key (Allen type) and release excess fluid from the gearbox.
WARNING: There are several similar fasteners/plugs on the bottom of the automatic transmission. It is very important to find and unscrew, even before checking the level of the working fluid in the gearbox, exactly the plug that is required for this operation. Turning away the other (th) fasteners/plugs cause severe internal damage to the transmission.
8. If, with the level plug turned out, the working fluid does not pour out:
9. Loosen the fill plug and add fluid until it overflows from the level control port.
When replenishing the transmission fluid after replacing the air-oil cooler (model Td4 for hot climates), you need to add 420 cc. working fluid. The temperature of the working fluid in the box must reach a value of 80°C in order for the cooler valve to open.
10. Move the selector lever again from the position "R" to each next position and, returning to the position "R", drain excess hydraulic fluid.
11. Install the level plug and tighten it to 14 Nm.
12. Clean and reinstall the fill plug.
13. Disconnect the TestBook/T4 diagnostic tool.
14. Replace the lower engine shield.
