Factory processing
During the manufacturing process, the car body is treated with the following anti-corrosion materials.
- Application of protective wax, which is sprayed on the threshold panels and on the lower parts of the door panels.
- The PVC based sealant is sprayed on the underside of the underbody and sills, on the front surface of the control panel lower cross member.
- Application of a protective mastic covering all moving and elastic components to the entire surface of the bottom between the vertical panels of the sills, EXCEPT for wheels, tires, brakes and exhaust systems.
- A layer of protective mastic is applied to the surface of the engine compartment.
With each body repair, it is necessary to ensure the restoration of the anti-corrosion coating of the repaired parts using the recommended materials.
Spraying protective mastic for cavities
Surfaces treated with protective mastic are shown in the following figures. After repair work, always treat repaired cavities with the recommended protective compound. In addition, the cavities that were affected during the repair should also be treated, regardless of whether they were factory treated or not. This includes all box sections, body cavities and internal door cavities. It is permitted to drill additional holes to access the cavities, unless these holes are located in the load-bearing elements of the body. The edges of these holes should be treated with a zinc primer, a protective compound applied with a brush, and at the end of the work closed with rubber stoppers.
Before injecting a protective compound, make sure that the cavities to be treated are free of dirt and foreign matter. If necessary, clean the cavity with compressed air.
Protective composition should be applied AFTER finishing touch-up and BEFORE installing any decorative and overhead elements.
During processing, make sure that the protective compound covers all flanges and joints and that it is applied to all repaired places, both old and newly installed panels.
It should be noted that new body parts and assemblies are supplied with internal cavities already treated with a protective compound. Ensure that these cavities are re-treated after repair.
Reliable processing of cavities is very important. Always observe the following rules:
- Finish all touch-up operations before applying protective composition.
- Before processing, clean the surfaces to be treated and, if necessary, blow out the cavities with compressed air.
- During processing and drying, maintain the temperature at 18°C.
- Check the spray cone shape of the cavity treatment equipment.
- Cover all areas that should not be treated and that could be damaged if they come into contact with a protective compound.
- If there is a risk of contamination with protective compound when splashed, remove items such as the seat belt retractor.
- Raise the door glass all the way up before working on the inside of the doors.
- Treat areas of the body that are normally covered by overlays before installing these elements.
- Clean the drainage holes of the thresholds and doors after treatment with a protective compound.
- Keep all equipment clean, especially spray nozzles.
