Front Passenger Airbag — Before MY 2004 (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

WARNING: It is forbidden to carry out any work on the SRS system before reading the relevant sections of the Manual.

WARNING: When removing, inspecting and installing the airbag module, do not lean over it.

1. Follow all safety rules when working with the airbag system.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Airbag and seat belt pretensioner regulations.

2. Turn away 2 screws of fastening of the lower decorative overlay of the pillow of safety.

3. Remove a decorative overlay.

4. Turn away 4 Torx bolts of fastening of the module of an airbag to the control panel.

5. Remove the airbag module from the control panel.

CAUTION: Do not let the airbag module hang on the power cable.

6. Release electroconducting from a collar and disconnect an electric socket from the airbag module.

7. Remove the airbag module.

WARNING: Store airbags face up. If the air bag module is stored with the deployment side facing down, if it is accidentally deployed, it will be thrown up with enough force to cause serious injury.

Installation

NOTE: If an airbag module has been replaced, note down the bar code of the new module.

1. Locate the airbag module next to the control panel and connect the electrical connector to the module.

2. Install the airbag module to the control panel and tighten the Torx screws to 9 Nm.

3. Reinstall the lower decorative overlay of the airbag module and tighten the screws of its fastening.

4. Connect the battery terminals, first "negative" terminal.
