Removal and installation of the muffler 4.4L (Discovery 3)

Exhaust pipe cutter 100-051 (LRT-99-027)

Removing

1.

WARNING: It is forbidden to carry out work on a vehicle standing on only one jack. Always support the vehicle with jack stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Disconnect the right catalytic converter from the silencer assembly. Loosen 2 nuts.

3. Disconnect the left catalytic converter from a final collector. Loosen the nut and loosen the clamp.



4. With assistance, remove the muffler assembly. Disconnect 5 elements of fastening of system of release of the fulfilled gases.

NOTE: Do not proceed with further disassembly if the part is being removed only for access.

Remove the left exhaust pipe. Using 100-051, cut the exhaust pipe at the location indicated by the dimple on the exhaust pipe.

6. Remove the right exhaust pipe. Using 100-051, cut off the exhaust pipe at the location indicated by the dimple on the exhaust pipe.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Do not tighten the clamp at this stage.

Connect the right exhaust pipe to the muffler assembly.

• Clear the details.
• Install clamp.

2.

NOTE: Do not tighten the clamp at this stage.

Connect the left exhaust pipe to the muffler assembly.

• Clear the details.
• Install clamp.

3. With assistance, install the muffler assembly.

• Establish elements of fastening of system of release of the fulfilled gases.
• Tighten the catalytic converter nuts and clamp (tightening torque 48 Nm).

4. Align both exhaust pipes and tighten the clamps (tightening torque 55 Nm).
