The starter is installed in the right rear of the engine, at the junction of the cylinder block with the base plate. For more information refer to Starting System (303-06B Starting System - 4.4L)
Drain plug of the cooling system / heater
The drain plug of the cooling system is located at the left rear of the cylinder block. On vehicles with a cold climate package, a coolant heater is installed in place of the drain plug on the cylinder block.
On Canadian market vehicles, the coolant heater is installed on the engine at engine assembly, while on Scandinavian market vehicles, the coolant heater is installed by the dealer.

The coolant pump is installed between the two cylinder banks on the front side of the cylinder block.
Thermostat housing

The thermostat housing, made of composite material, is located between the two cylinder banks directly above the coolant pump. The thermostat controls the flow of coolant through the radiator.
