Oil sump (Discovery 3)

Removing

1. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification

WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Always place secure supports under the vehicle.

Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Drain the engine oil.

4. Remove the oil cooler assembly. For more information refer to Oil cooler (12.60.68)

5. Remove the engine front cover. For more information refer to Engine front cover (12.65.01)

6. Remove the front differential. For more information refer to Bridge assembly (54.10.01)

7. Remove the steering gear.

8. Remove the generator. For more information refer to Generator (86.10.02)

9. Remove the alternator support bracket. Turn out 4 bolts.



10. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors (HO2S). Release the 8 wire harness retaining clips.



11. Release the heated oxygen sensor support bracket. Turn out 2 bolts.


12. Release the heated oxygen sensor harness from the oil pan. Release 3 clips.

13. Turn out bolts of fastening of a transmission. Turn out 3 bolts.



14. Remove the oil pan. Remove 16 bolts.

Installation

1. Install the oil pan.

• Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
• Apply a bead of sealant 3mm wide x 130mm long at the indicated locations.
• Tighten the bolts (tightening torque 20 Nm).

2. Screw in bolts of fastening of a transmission. Tighten the bolts (tightening torque 45 Nm).


3. Install the heated oxygen sensor support bracket. Tighten 2 bolts (tightening torque 10 Nm).

4. Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors. Install the heated oxygen sensor harness clamps.

5. Install the heated oxygen sensor harness. Fasten the clamps.

6. Install the generator support bracket. Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.

7. Install the generator. For more information refer to Generator (86.10.02)

8. Install the steering gear.

9. Install the front differential. For more information refer to Bridge assembly (54.10.01)

10. Install the oil cooler assembly. For more information refer to Oil cooler (12.60.68)

11. Install the engine front cover. For more information refer to Engine front cover (12.65.01)

12. Fill the engine with oil.

13. Connect the wire "masses" to the battery. For more information refer to Specification.
