Power transmission in the transfer case
Primary torque from the gearbox is transmitted to the transfer case input shaft and then to the sun gear and planetary pinions. The planetary pinions are held in place by the pinion pinion pins connected to the differential cup and drive the differential pinions. Torque is distributed to the front and rear carriers connected to the transfer case output shafts. The rear carrier is connected directly to the rear output flange; the front carrier is connected to the sprocket, and therefore to the chain drive, which rotates the front output flange.
