The crankshaft pulley, through the accessory drive belt, drives the accessories, which include the vibration damper, alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, and coolant pump.
The maintenance-free V-ribbed belt is automatically pre-tensioned by idler pulleys and runs over the idler pulleys to maintain sufficient grip on the drive pulleys. This eliminates the possibility of slipping the belt on the pulleys of the auxiliary units.
